SUSAN SCOTT
presents
HAWAII’S PLANTS AND ANIMALS, a new book for all who love Hawaii.
Coming summer, 2025 by Bess Press.
The title of my upcoming book seems enormous, but it focusses on the plants and animals that Hawaii residents, students, and visitors see most often while driving or walking around the Islands. Some we rarely see, such as forest birds, but often hear about in media reports. My slide show summarizes what’s native, what Polynesian settlers brought, and what later settlers imported. For me, and hopefully for others, knowing more about the plants and animals that I see from my car, pass in the parks, or hear about in the media makes living in Hawaii all the more rewarding.
Susan Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from the University of Hawaii, Manoa and is a graduate of the university’s Marine Option Program where she studied marine journalism. From 1987 to 2020, Susan wrote a weekly newspaper column called “OceanWatch” for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and is the author, and co-author, of 10 books about nature in Hawaii. Since 2022, Susan has been president of the Hawaii Audubon Society. www.susanscott.net
